While electric vehicles are widely regarded as safe and statistically less likely to ignite than petrol or diesel vehicles, a risk still exists. In some regions, hybrid vehicle uptake adds additional complexity to emergency response.

Lithium-ion vehicle fires present unique challenges. Battery packs are typically located underneath the vehicle, while most building sprinkler systems operate from above. This requires new thinking around detection, cooling, and suppression strategies capable of addressing fire from below the chassis.

Electric vehicle fires may also require substantially larger water volumes for sustained cooling. Some facilities may need upgraded storage or supply infrastructure. Planning for these scenarios is essential to reduce damage and support safe evacuation.

Thorough planning and careful consideration are essential following a road incident or collision involving an electric vehicle. First responders, such as paramedics and fire departments, must swiftly evaluate the situation to identify any potential fire risks, which may not be immediately apparent. Towing and insurance companies also need to exercise caution when handling and storing electric vehicles after a collision, as fires can ignite weeks later due to unforeseen short circuits or structural damage.

EVFS under-vehicle misting systems deploy water mist to cool lithium-ion battery packs and contain fire and toxic gases. The low-profile design fits major EV platforms and provides full chassis
coverage.

• Primary mist nozzles targeting battery packs to slow thermal runaway.
• Curtain nozzles that protect responders and nearby vehicles.
• Extension poles enabling safe operation from a distance.

These systems prioritise active cooling
and containment to stabilise incidents quickly.

We also offer hose induction systems.

Lay-flat hose induction systems upgrade hydrant infrastructure to support multi-class fire response, including Class A, B, D, F, and Class L lithium-ion fires. Systems can be permanently installed or deployed as mobile kits.

We also offer Early Warning Thermal and Flame Detection Cameras

Early detection is critical when managing lithium-ion risks. Thermal and flame detection camera systems identify abnormal heat signatures before escalation, providing valuable intervention time.

Using infrared imaging and AI-assisted analytics, these systems detect battery instability within seconds and notify teams through alarms, visual alerts, email, or SMS. Options range from fixed monitoring installations to cabinet-mounted and portable handheld units.

These systems are suited to battery storage facilities, charging infrastructure, warehouses, and manufacturing environments where early intervention prevents catastrophic failure.

Proactive monitoring does not just detect fire. It helps prevent escalation.
